The Maryland Heights Police Department hosts its Citizens Police Academy once each year. This 10-week evening course is designed to educate residents about the procedures, tactics and investigative techniques used by a state certified law enforcement agency. Taught by members of the Maryland Heights Police Department, the academy typically meets from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Tuesday at the Police Department, 11911 Dorsett Road.
Topics to be covered include patrol procedures; use of force and weapons; defensive tactics; crime scene and drug investigations; and traffic and DWI enforcement. In addition to the classroom information, students can schedule a four-hour ride-along with a Maryland Heights patrol officer to gain firsthand experience about a typical day on the job.
Only individuals 18 years or older will be considered for admission. A background check will be performed on all applicants.
