The Division of Building & Code Enforcement has two primary functions: inspections and plan examination.
Plan examiners review all construction plans as part of the building permit process. Their review insures that both residential and commercial construction meets the requirements of the building code.
Inspectors are responsible for field implementation of the plans approved by the plan examiners. They also inspect all commercial and residential structures prior to the issuance of an occupancy permit. Code Enforcement Officers conduct property maintenance inspections to help insure city standards are being met after the property is occupied.
