How to Curb Parking Violations

Residents commonly have questions or concerns regarding parking restrictions in residential areas, both on and off the street. Here is how our Municipal Code deals with common parking issues:

Parking on the Lawn
The Municipal Code does not allow vehicles to be parked on the lawn. Instead, cars must be parked in the driveway or in the street, unless "no parking" signs are posted.

Parking in the Street
On-street parking is allowed with the following exceptions:
  • When "No Parking" signs are posted.
  • You are within fifteen feet of a fire hydrant.
  • You are within ten feet of a privately owned mailbox on Monday - Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • You are within thirty feet of a stop sign.
  • Camping trailers, boat trailers, motor homes, special mobile equipment, boats, buses, or any other kinds of trailers, or other motor vehicles which exceed eighty inches in height or twenty feet in length, or licensed to exceed 18,000 pounds in gross weight are not allowed for more than four hours unless authorized by the Chief of Police.
  • Derelict, damaged, disabled vehicles or vehicles "for sale" or not properly licensed are not allowed on the street.
  • You may not block or restrict traffic lanes or sidewalks.

Parking in the Driveway
The Municipal Code prohibits vehicles exceeding 20,000 pounds or 22 feet in length from being parked outside a garage on residential properties. This includes vehicles like construction equipment, tow trucks, garbage trucks, and stake-bed trucks.  Exceptions are recreational vehicles and boat trailers, which can be parked in the driveway, even if they are over the allowable weight or length. Derelict or disabled vehicles may be subject to code enforcement action. Also, you may not block sidewalks, even if you are in your own driveway.
