Description : The City of Maryland Heights is looking for a Director of Finance to provide leadership and supervision for the accounting, finance and IT functions for the City of Maryland Heights.

The annualized pay range for this position is $94,415 to $141,933.

The City of Maryland Heights requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain an exemption approved by the City before their employment date.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND  RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long-range financial plans, investments, employee benefit design and procurement and various internal and external financial reports.
  2. Manages the preparation of the annual budget
  3. Directs the preparation of state and federal reports, including tax reports
  4. Develops financial studies, reports, and plans. Forecasts, estimates and monitors the financial condition of the City to assure its fiscal well-being
  5. Provides professional advice to the Mayor, Council and City Administrator; makes presentations to Council, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public and serves as committee coordinator
  6. Provides oversight for the finance department and for IT division employees
  7. Reviews and approves purchase orders over ten thousand dollars
  8. Performs supervisory responsibilities in a manner consistent with the City's personnel manual and culture
  9. Establishes and maintains internal control procedures and assures that state and national standard accounting procedures are maintained. Ensures compliance with local and federal laws and regulations and the City's internal control policies
  10. Performs related duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration or a closely related field and seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible governmental accounting and financial management experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) are required. A Master's degree and certification as a public accountant (CPA) or public finance officer (CFPO) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) are preferred.

Additional Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounting, financial management and budgeting; principles and practices of office management, work organization and supervision.

Ability to: communicate effectively orally and in writing; work well with the public, including the ability to handle stressful situations and effectively deal with people; work independently without direct supervision, including organizing work, setting priorities and meeting crucial deadlines; working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of tools.
