The Maryland Heights Parks and Recreation Department has multiple openings for a Preschool Leader. This position works directly with preschool age children and assists in the planning, organizing, and implementing of preschool programming.

Preschool Leaders work a maximum of 29 hours per week Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm with a flexible schedule. The starting pay rate for this position is $13.40 per hour.  School year is end of August through May the following year with hours available in the summer for preschool age camp.

The City of Maryland Heights has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. Employees are required to be fully vaccinated or must have had an exception approved by City.

Essential Duties:

  • Work as part of a team of employees to organize, plan and implement preschool programming.
  • Provide a quality of teaching that complies with standards of the Maryland Heights Parks and Rec Department.
  • Ensure equipment of the facility is clean, well-maintained and safe at all times.
  • Receive and dismiss children from parents using security policies.
  • Engage children in creative play, songs, stories and otherwise provide a happy experience.
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures
  • Attend all staff meetings and training as necessary.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, plus previous childcare experience. CPR/AED certification preferred.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, especially dealing with parents and children in a professional manner.
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, lift and carry minimum of 50 pounds.  Strong organizational and problem solving skills.  Attention to detail.
Special Requirements:
At least 18 years of age. Must pass a criminal background check and drug test.
