Solar Canopies are Now Under Construction at the Community Center!

As construction commences at the Community Center, we wanted to look back on last week's Solar Canopy Groundbreaking Event, and extend a special thank you to Ameren Missouri for their support with this project!

The new Solar Canopies being installed at the Community Center are an exciting opportunity for Maryland Heights to advance our commitment to sustainability, while becoming a regional leader in environmental initiatives in our community. This project couldn't be possible without the generous support of Ameren Missouri, who selected us as a partner for their Neighborhood Solar Program, an initiative for sustainability where Ameren fully funds and organizes the construction of solar structures at partner properties.

At the event, Mayor Mike Moeller, Patrick Smith (VP Economic, Community, & Business Development for Ameren Missouri), and Jim Carver (Director of Economic Development for the City of Maryland Heights) spoke about the project. They stressed the need for sustainable projects across our communities, as well as the strength of the partnership between Maryland Heights and Ameren Missouri.

Construction on the canopies will take place throughout the Fall and Winter at the Community Center, with estimated completion in Spring 2023, ahead of the Summer 2023 Aquaport season that will see patrons utilize the lot en masse. Once complete, 140 shaded parking spots will be available, each one generating solar power that will feed back into our local grid, improving the quality of life for our community at large!

Please stay tuned for future updates on the project, as well as on other sustainability initiatives that Maryland Heights is pursuing!
