How to Recycle this Holiday Season

Did you know that Americans generate 25% more waste during the holiday season on average? One way to make the season even more delightful is by not forgetting to recycle - and we've assembled some handy tips to make recycling as easy as possible!

Items to recycle:
  • Cardboard
  • Paper boxes (gift, shoe and shipping)
  • Wrapping paper (plain only)
  • Holiday cards and envelopes
  • Clean glass containers, metal cans and plastic containers labeled with a #1 - 5 or #7.

Items to put in the garbage:
  • Bubble wrap
  • Ribbons and bows
  • Gift bags
  • Cellophane
  • Packing peanuts
  • Strands of lighting
  • #6 Plastic containers
Hold on to your electronics!
Electronics such as smart devices, toys, computers, and more make popular holiday gifts, and often replace older products in the household. As a result, it's tempting to throw away your old electronics - however, this often results in producing e-waste that has harmful effects on the environment. Instead, hang on to your old tech - we hold electronic recycling events twice every year, which is the perfect time to safely and responsibly dispose of old gadgets for free!

Compost your Holiday tree
Republic Services will pick up live Christmas trees on yard waste days throughout January. To recycle your tree, follow these guidelines:
  • Tree height limit is 6 ft. If your tree is taller, please cut it in half.
  • Remove all lights and metallic decorations. Lights and garland should NOT be recycled, as they will get caught in equipment and cause extensive damage. Throw broken lights and garland in the garbage.
  • Wreaths with metal frames are not yard waste and should be thrown in the garbage.
