A Message From the Mayor - February/March 2023

I know it may be hard to believe, but in the next couple months our winter season will be coming to an end. If you're anything like me, you are excited to get back outside and enjoy the fresh air and warmer temperatures of springtime. After all the cold we've endured these last couple months, we are excited for all the upcoming programs and events taking place throughout the spring season! Don't miss out on these fun opportunities for adults and kids alike!

While we are accustomed to celebrating our traditional springtime events such as St. Patrick's Day and our community egg hunts, another event that signifies the new season is Election Day on April 4. I encourage all of our residents to educate themselves on how to register to vote, and on the issues they will be voting on in the next election. Get out there and exercise your right to let your voice be heard!

Along with elections, another important deadline is upon us - tax season. The MHPD has prepared several valuable tips on how to prevent identity theft and scams when preparing your taxes this year.

The MHPD doesn't just keep us safe through prevention tips - they also recently launched a new tool for communication that is available to residents. We began the new year with a test alert of our new emergency notification system - MH Alerts. Little did we know that five days later, this new system would be put to the test when multiple businesses were notified of a lockdown after a serious crime was committed in the area. If you would like to learn more about this system and find out why you may not have received an alert, please see our story here. If creating an account online is too confusing, please utilize the provided form and we will ensure you are in our database for any future notifications.

Did you know there is a place where you can report issues such as code violations online? If you have a neighborhood nuisance, please see our story here to learn where you can report these issues. Of course, for crimes in progress or any other emergency situations, you should still dial 9-1-1 and our MHPD dispatchers will be able to dispatch an officer immediately.

Published alongside our new newsletter is our 2023 Budget in Brief. This document nicely summarizes our financial plans for 2023. You can find the document at marylandheights.com/budgetbrief.

I am excited for all that 2023 has to offer the City of Maryland Heights! We have so many wonderful things on the horizon. May we continue to grow and flourish as a community.

From my family to yours, Happy Spring!
