A Message From the Mayor - April/May 2023

As time goes on, it always seems like things change just as much as they stay the same. Whether it's the passing of seasons, the events and traditions we organize year after year, or the seemingly simple tasks of maintaining our city, it's easy to take the constants in life for granted. Despite this, we here in Maryland Heights strive to make even the simplest things as great as possible for our community.

One of the most important (and often overlooked) aspects of municipal government is investing in our community through Public Works projects. After all, great public infrastructure is crucial in making our city as great as it can be! That's why I'm excited that we're highlighting the variety of upcoming infrastructure projects happening in Maryland Heights this year. While not every project detailed in the article is directly managed by the City of Maryland Heights, they all will have a tangible benefit on our community. Whether you're a resident, a regular commuter in the area, or just visiting, our roads bring us all closer together.

These projects couldn't be possible without a strong team to plan them, and we're honored to have one of our own awarded for these efforts! Public Works Director Cliff Baber was recently recognized as Missouri's Professional Engineer of the Year. We've prepared a profile of his career - congratulations Cliff!

The warmer weather of the early summer gives us plenty of reasons to get out more! While the Summer 2023 Guide to Parks and Recreation details the variety of events going on in the area, one of my favorite programs we organize is Worldfest. Making such a variety of different cultures accessible to our community is always a delight to see, and the full story we've prepared details much of what we have to look forward to at this year's event.

While I love events such as Worldfest, the City understands that culture in Maryland Heights means more than just putting on a yearly showcase. I'm proud of the diversity within our borders, and to celebrate this, the City announced Culture on Your Block last year. This resident spotlight program designed to showcase how diversity thrives in Maryland Heights each and every day. We are excited to release our first spotlight with one of our residents, Mala!

Even if some of these changes noted in our regular news may seem small, I know they leave a huge impact on our City in the end. Enjoying the beauty of the simple things is so much of what makes life here great - and I hope that holds true for you as well!
