New Equipment Comes to Parkwood and Vago Parks

The Maryland Heights Parks and Recreation Department has recently finished the installation of new equipment in two of its parks! Parkwood Park has received a long-awaited replacement of the fitness stations located around the edge of the walking path. Vago Park has received a brand new playground designed for children ages 2-5 located in the front section of the park, near the splash pads.

Plans for the project began approximately a year ago, as the City consulted the Parks and Recreation Master Plan to assess what equipment was due to be replaced or newly installed. After the Parkwood and Vago Park were selected for the process, the City took bids from a number of vendors to decide on what equipment would be installed.

From there, a list of designs from a number of different vendors were put to a public vote, with renderings of the equipment available for visitors to vote on throughout the month of August 2022. Once the final design was decided by the public, the City began the process of applying for grant money to support the installation.

"The project was made possible through the funding available through the Municipal Parks Grant," noted Parks and Recreation Director Amy Hays. This year, Maryland Heights was one of 24 cities to receive a grant from the fund, to the amount of $284,385. The grant award was made possible in large part thanks to the extensive planning that the City undertook. "The City is grateful for the support of the Grant Commission," said City Administrator Tracey Anderson, "as it affords the City the opportunity to apply for and receive funding to facilitate the completion of new or dated park projects."

Installation efforts took place throughout Spring 2023. The City officially celebrated the completion of the project with a small ribbon cutting ceremony on May 4, 2023. We appreciate the input of the public throughout the planning process, and are excited for our community to take advantage of the new equipment!
