July 22 Memorial Planned for Maria Lucas

On February 24, 2020, Maria's life was taken by a senseless act of violence. This tragedy shocked our entire community.

Maria began her journey at Maryland Heights as a summer camp counselor and got to know many of our young residents. Her love for the kids she encountered was apparent. Shortly after the Community Center opened in 2017, Maria was hired as a Customer Relations Specialist and served the community she loved with her wonderful smile.

A memorial for Maria was originally scheduled during spring of 2020 but had to be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions. We ask that members of our community join us to memorialize Maria on Thursday, July 22 from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. at Vago Park, a park she frequented during several summers as a Maryland Height's camp counselor. We suggest carpooling, as parking spaces are limited within the park. A shuttle service will be available to convey participants to the back of Vago Park where the memorial will take place. If you would like to utilize the shuttle service, please park at the City of Maryland Heights Public Works parking lot, 2715 Fee Fee Rd. There will be overflow parking available at Remington Traditional School, 102 Fee Fee Rd. When riding the shuttle, we ask that you wear a mask.

We also suggest bringing a water bottle. Bathrooms are available on-site in Vago Park and the playground will still be opened during this time.

We ask that you pass this invitation on to your children who may have known Maria from the Parks and Recreation programs.
