Trash Collection Holiday Schedule & Recycling Tips

Residents are reminded that Republic Services' trash collection schedule will change slightly due to the Thanksgiving holiday:

  • Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes will not be affected.
  • Thursday routes will be picked up on Friday, November 26.
  • Friday routes will be picked up on Saturday, November 27

Household waste increases during the holiday season. Here are some tips to help you eliminate waste:

  • Skip the disposables. Disposable dishes and cutlery are tempting when feeding a large group but consider using regular dishes to keep trash out of the landfill. If you do use disposable, opt for a compostable or biodegradable option.
  • Make the most of your leftovers. Americans will throw away 25% of their total Thanksgiving meal. Buying the right size turkey, sending guests home with leftovers, freezing what you don't eat and composting fruits, vegetables, bread, and pasta to keep food waste out of the trash.
  • Empty. Clean. Dry. With our current single-stream recycling system, Republic Services can accept flattened cardboard, paper, clear and colored glass, aluminum and metal food containers, cartons, and every type of plastic except #6 (polystyrene plastics largely composed of styrofoam). Thin plastics such as grocery bags, plastic wrap, plastic film and bubble wrap are not able to be recycled and can cause serious damage to equipment. Remember to keep these types of plastics out of the recycle bins.
