A Message from Mayor Moeller - January

A fresh new year is the time for making resolutions, changes to our usual lifestyles, and generally reflecting on how to improve.

The City of Maryland Heights is constantly assessing the past, present and future. There is always room for improvement and we strive to make the changes necessary to remain a strong community. The economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been observed globally. Despite this, our community experienced an action-packed 2021. With face masks, vaccinations and safety protocols in place, it allowed life to return to Maryland Heights. These last two years during the pandemic have taught us what makes Maryland Heights resilient and strong. As we anticipate the market returning to pre-pandemic levels, it's important to take a look back to see what helped us stay afloat during these  challenging times. I invite you to take a look at the Budget in Brief insert. This publication provides a summary of our planned initiatives and expenditures for 2022. The full 2022 budget document is available at www.marylandheights.com/2022Budget

And while we cannot forget the devastation caused by the pandemic, we can learn from it and remain a resilient community by adapting to the new "normal". It is extremely important for our residents to remain connected and engaged.

Maryland Heights has not slowed down and is still a very thriving community. The most recent data from the 2020 Census has indicated an increase in our population. People want to live here and we are proud that so many of you call Maryland Heights home. The remaining data from the 2020 Census is anticipated to be published in 2022.

Staff work hard every day to provide professional service to the community. This month, I encourage you to read the updates provided by various departments. We have several interesting developments, programs, and events that are making their debut in 2022. Many of these decisions are influenced by community input. It's important that we keep the line of communication open. From utilizing grant money to a new construction project, the more we hear from the community, the better we are able to serve you. Your city council and I are just a phone call or email away. Our information can be found on the back of this newsletter if you would like to contact us.

I'm very excited for what 2022 has in store for Maryland Heights. If there's one thing I've learned in my years as mayor, it's that change is constant and necessary. I look forward to leading our City into a healthier and brighter future!

Stay safe and have a happy new year!
