Residential Plumbing Permits
Permits are not required for ordinary repair and maintenance of existing installations. This work includes:
- The stoppage of leaks in drains, water, soil, waste or vent pipe with the exception of replacing concealed fittings, vent or soil stacks.
- The clearing of stoppages in pipes, valves, fittings or fixtures.
- Removal and replacement of water closets provided that the repairs do not require the replacement or relocation of valves, pipes or fixtures.
- Replacement of an existing food waste disposal, dishwasher, shower head, or shower trim.
- Replacement of a sink provided that the repairs do not require the replacement or relocation of valves, pipes or fixtures.
- Repair or replacement of any faucet provided that the repairs do not require the replacement or relocation of valves, pipes or fixtures.
- Repair of backflow prevention devices.
- Installation of lawn irrigation systems beyond the required backflow prevention device.
Residential plumbing permits may be obtained from the City of Maryland Heights without submitting plans for the following work:
- Replacement of water heaters up to and including 120 gallons.
- Installation or replacement of backflow prevention devices.
- Repair and / or replacement of a DWV stack.
- Repair or replacement of any sewer lateral.
- Repair or replacement of an interior or exterior water line.
All other plumbing work requires three sets of construction documents to be submitted with the application.
