Greenhouse, Garden & Interpretive Sustainability Center
The City of Maryland Heights was recently awarded a grant for $850,000 for the Greenhouse, Garden and Sustainability Center Project. This project will consist of greenhouses to be installed on a 5 acre property near Pattonville High School and the Ameren Missouri Renewable Energy Center. These facilities will be continued to be heated by the landfill gas and a sustainability center with office space will be constructed. Among several goals, the City would like this location to facilitate field trips to showcase Waste Connections' sustainability solutions at the landfill and offer community programs for youth and adults. There are also plans being developed for an open air type retail area where plants will be sold. Other opportunities include a community garden area, edible landscaping, permaculture garden, demonstrations of solar and wind power and much more.
