Ameren Brings Solar to the Community Center!

Ameren Missouri recently announced plans to install an array of solar canopies in the Community Center parking lot as a part of their Neighborhood Solar program.

These canopies will offer shaded parking to Community Center/Aquaport patrons while generating electricity that will feed directly into the City’s electrical grid, all at no extra cost to the city. The installation of these canopies will help to improve quality of life for our residents visiting the Community Center and Aquaport while enhancing our dedication towards making Maryland Heights a beacon of sustainability in the St. Louis metro area.

The Neighborhood Solar program is an initiative by Ameren Missouri to increase the amount of clean energy in the electrical grid while deepening partnerships with local community partners. The program also emphasizes creating new work and educational opportunities for renewable energy sources. Ameren will pay for the construction and maintenance of all solar canopies that are installed throughout the duration of their operation, with a minimum of 25 years of use guarantee for each canopy that is installed.

Work will begin on the solar canopies in the first week of September 2022, following the end of operation of Aquaport's summer season. One hundred and forty parking spots in the large lot between Aquaport and the Community Center will be covered by the canopies, with the lot adjacent to the Aquaport entrance and a small number of spots most adjacent to the Community Center remaining uncovered. In addition, the lot directly in front of the Community Center will also remain uncovered by the canopies, and will not be impacted throughout the duration of  the construction process. The parking spots that will be shaded are pictured below:

Construction will take place throughout the Fall and Winter, with estimated completion in Spring 2023, ahead of the Summer 2023 Aquaport season that will see patrons utilize the lot en masse.

We’re excited to bring this new development to the City!
