Officers Raise Money With Beards for Babies Contest

This past November, Chief Carson temporarily suspended the department policy that restricted beards for MHPD officers. Thanks to this, officers were invited to voluntarily take part in the "Beards for Babies" contest. Those who participated were allowed to grow a beard for "No Shave November" with a $50.00 donation to Saint Louis Crisis Nursery.

Saint Louis Crisis Nursery is a charitable organization whose administrative headquarters are located in Maryland Heights. This non-profit provides premier child abuse prevention programs to the St. Louis region. They also provide a short-term safe haven for over 5,000 children a year, ages 0-12 years, whose families are facing an emergency caused by illness, homelessness, domestic violence, or overwhelming parental stress.

Chief Carson believes that building a strong relationship with the businesses within our community is important. "We wanted to do something charitable, preferably for children and families, and at the same time support organizations that are in our community" Carson said.

Photos of the officer participants were posted on the MHPD Facebook page, and the community was able to vote for "best beard." Congratulations to Officer Spradlin for winning the contest with a total of 864 votes! The MHPD raised a total of $4,690 for Saint Louis Crisis Nursery at the end of the competition. Thanks to all those who donated!
