Request a Vacation Watch with the MHPD

Did you know that the Maryland Heights Police Department offers a Vacation Watch program?  The Vacation Watch program is designed to provide peace of mind to our residents while they are away from home for extended periods of time.

The Maryland Heights Police Department will periodically check on your residence while it is vacant. The information you provide allows us to contact you and/or your designated emergency contact in the event we find something at your residence that may need attention. This program is a public service to help safeguard citizens’ property and allow for rapid response and owner notification in the event of a problem.

If you are interested in having a vacation check, please contact the Maryland Heights Police Department at (314) 298-8700, or fill out the form via our website at www.marylandheights.com/VacationWatch. If possible, please contact us at least 3 business days before your departure.

The simple form will ask about the time frame of your departure, emergency contact information, if you are leaving a key with anyone, if you plan leaving lights on or cars in the driveway. A few minutes of your time filling out the form is definitely worth having an officer stop by to check on your property while you're away.

If you arrive home early from your vacation, please remember to call us at (314) 298-8700 so we can stop the vacation watch.

Disclaimer: Requesting a vacation watch by the Maryland Heights Police Department does not guarantee that a burglary, other crime or damage will not occur at your residence; it is only intended to be a request of the Maryland Heights Police Department to check your home periodically, based upon the availability of an officer.
Consequently, it is recommended that you make every effort to safeguard against losses including securing of high value property, using proper locking devices, alarm systems, lighting, etc.

Another safety tip is to not publish any information about being out of town on social media platforms! Vacations are fun but if you publish the exact time frame of your departure, you could be inviting in unwanted guests to your empty property. If you are looking for a house or pet sitter it's best to just post a generic wanted ad. Leave out the details until you start to interview potential candidates.

With the MHPD Vacation Watch program, we hope you have one less thing to worry about while on vacation! Stay Safe!
