Remembering Maria Lucas

On Thursday, July 22 at Vago Park, the City held a memorial for Maria Lucas whose life was taken by a senseless act of violence in February 2020. During the memorial, the Maria Lucas Memorial was unveiled.

During the Fall Family Fair on October 16 at Vago Park, the City will be offering an opportunity for the community to decorate stepping stones that will be placed around the new Maria Lucas Memorial. If you are interested in decorating a stepping stone, please sign up for a time by clicking here.

The week before school began, Officer Mancusi from the MHPD and Communications Manager, Trisha Hall transported boxes, storage totes and bags filled with a variety of school supplies and backpacks. The delivery was received by Amanda Lappe, social worker from the Pattonville School District. Donated school supplies filled an entire conference room.

From there, these supplies were delivered to families within the district.Thank you to everyone who had donated to the Maria's Backpacks School Supply Drive! We will start this drive in Maria's memory next year on her birthday, July 3rd.

Maria began her journey at Maryland Heights as a summer camp counselor and got to know many of our young residents. Her love for the kids she encountered was apparent. Shortly after the Community Center opened in 2017, Maria was hired as a Customer Relations Specialist and served the community she loved with her wonderful smile.
