Parking Restrictions Reminder

When incorporating in 1985, the City adopted the Model Traffic Ordinance (RSMo Ch. 300).

What is the Model Traffic Ordinance?
The Model Traffic Ordinance is a State statute that establishes traffic regulations. By adopting the Model Traffic Ordinance, the City did not have to pass numerous traffic regulation ordinances. One area included in the Model Traffic Ordinance is parking restrictions on public streets. These restrictions include the following:

• No parking within fifteen feet of a fire hydrant
• No parking over a sidewalk
• No parking within thirty feet of a stop sign
• No parking along a street that will restrict or block a traffic lane. On some city streets, the traffic lane is designated with centerline striping.

In addition, the City has established several "no parking zones" that are designated with signage.

If you encounter someone violating a parking ordinance, you may call the Maryland Heights Police Department at the non-emergency line (314) 298-8700. A police officer will be dispatched to the location and a ticket may be issued. It's also important to remember that the Public Works Department encourages residents to park in their driveway, if possible, during snow events. Parking on the street limits the accessibility of snowplows when clearing residential areas.
